Laptop backup advised

11-07-2009

Companies have been advised to implement strong laptop backup procedures after it was revealed that data stored on company laptops is often worth in excess of half a million pounds.

Fox Business has reported that the average worth of information stored on business laptops is £550,000 and in order to protect this data from loss or corruption, firms should backup this information on a regular basis.

Furthermore, in order to protect against opportunistic thieves, firms have been advised to encrypt all data stored on these devices and to ensure all laptops are password-protected at the very minimum.

Meanwhile, Tony Neate, managing director of Get Safe Online, recently argued that firms need to implement robust IT security measures and monitor who is accessing stored information in order to adequately protect stored data and to prevent incidences of data loss or corruption.

He added that proper data security is key to ensuring online backup systems are not compromised.
