Data placement 'key to efficient backup'

The position which information is stored on network drives is key to improving efficiency and reducing costs, it has been claimed.

George Crump wrote in his blog for Information Week that data backup efficiency can be boosted if regularly accessed data is stored close together on storage disk drives.

He added that data placement can help improve the green credentials of a firm also, as less power is required if a drive does not have to constantly spin from end to end to access information stored on it.

Furthermore, Mr Crump noted that maintenance costs can also be reduced for firms which employ efficient data management practices, as wear and tear to equipment will be minimised.
